Closed doors

I’m quite familiar with the iconic Alexander Graham Bell quote that “when one door closes, another opens; but we often look so long and so regretfully upon the closed door that we do not see the one which has opened for us.” That’s not completely true. For every situation, there are an equal number of near limitless possibilities which could result from a “closed door” or missed opportunity that could result in opportunity or more loss, failure, and frustration. Thus, the next open door, might not be open.

While I agree that you should free yourself from the past and move your sight and attention away from the closed door, it doesn’t necessarily mean there will be another open door, only more possibilities and consequences of the closed door. One closed door, one less possibility.

In the last four days, several doors have closed. Words were spoken that can not be taken back. Ideal situations can not be achieved because of rules or regulations. Contracts and agreements have been broken and blame has shifted. Trust has been lost.

As Christians, we know that God dwells in us making us temples of the Holy Spirit (cf. 1 Cor. 6:19).
